Iowa advocacy group criticizes Grassley's handling of Kavanaugh proceedings
An Iowa organization that advocates against sexual assault criticized U.S. Sen. Chuck Grassley on Friday for how he’s handled the confirmation proceedings of Judge Brett Kavanaugh to the U.S. Supreme Court.
The Iowa Coalition Against Sexual Assault released a statement from its executive director, Beth Barnhill, that said her group is “furious” that the Senate Judiciary Committee voted Friday to advance Kavanaugh’s nomination to the full Senate.
Barnhill said the vote sends a “hurtful message” to survivors of sexual assault.
“Survivors watching the actions of our elected officials are angry about being silenced and ignored. We are angered by Senator Grassley’s insensitivity and shameful displays during these proceedings. We will continue to stand with all survivors, and we will continue to hold those who commit sexual violence accountable.”
