IowaCASA celebrates 35 years with 80's-themed fundraiser

On Thursday, September 21, IowaCASA will hold a fundraiser at the Des Moines Social Club to celebrate 35 years as a nonprofit organization. IowaCASA was founded in 1982 to provide training, support, and assistance to advocates working with sexual assault survivors throughout the state.

WHAT: IowaCASA’s Totally Awesome 35th Birthday Bash fundraiser

WHEN: Thursday, September 21, 2017 from 4:30 – 6:30pm

WHERE: The Des Moines Social Club in “The Basement” at 901 Cherry Street, Des Moines, IA 50309

THEME: Since IowaCASA was founded in 1982, the fundraiser is 80’s-themed. We are encouraging attendees to dress up in their favorite 80’s attire. The event will feature an 80’s photo booth, 80’s music, a silent auction and giveaway prizes, birthday cake and appetizers, and fun party favors.

Since its inception, IowaCASA has worked on a number of initiatives, including working to end marital rape (1985 – 1989); creating a task force to address sexual exploitation (1988 – 1991); introducing comprehensive legislation to help protect and empower survivors; helping to incubate a number of culturally specific organizations such as Monsoon United Asian Women of Iowa, Latinas for a New Dawn (LUNA), and Transformative Healing; and more. The coalition currently has 25 comprehensive sexual assault and shelter member programs covering all 99 counties.

Over 100 attendees are expected at tonight’s fundraiser. Sponsors include Kreg Tool, Frank and Melba Scaglione, Access Systems, Meacham Travel Service, Lufkin Benefit Solutions, Kum & Go, and Karl Ritland of Edward Jones. Baked goods have been donated by The Bake Shoppe, Get Baked with Helen, and Scratch Cupcakery.
