Iowa project reviews untested rape kits and kit guidelines
The Iowa Attorney General's office released information this week showing more than 4,200 sexual assault evidence kits have gone untested across the state.
Davenport, Muscatine and Burlington police departments are among some of the highest agencies in the KWQC viewing area with untested kits.
...It is an issue Kerri True-Funk, the associate director for Iowa Coalition Against Sexual Assault, said is a nation-wide problem.
“That is a long time to wait for your kit to be back but that's kind of how it is across the country, so that is a conversation that we're going to have about how to do you do this more effectively,” she said.
True-Funk's organization is part of the multidisciplinary team under the Iowa Sexual Assault Kit Initiative.
